LAMP Campus- Ivanhoe

Join the Royale Youth Garden as we garden, prepare, and cook produce to create a lifetime of sustainability and healthy habits. This site is located Midtown just minutes from downtown Kansas City, MO. In partnership with LAMP Campus – Ivanhoe, we co-manage a edible education program, helping youth and families to start and operate independent raised beds that supply healthy produce to feed Kansas City. The Campus is also a place to implement our entrepreneurial food business program.

Dirt, water, plants, and cooking utensils comprise a timeless lifestyle. The first outdoor environment encountered by an exploring child gives a gritty, cool, stony, or smooth sensation to the sands. This is when harvest season begins in both nature and youth eager to share a taste of their fresh creations.

Gardening Tips

Location

Site it right. Starting a garden is just like real estate. It's all about location. This is an important step.

Sunshine

Misjudging sunlight is a common pitfall when you're first learning to garden. Find a spot with 6-8 hours of direct light.

Water

Stay close to water. Having access to a water is vital for plant growth. Research how often you should water your garden.

Soil

Start with great soil. High in nitrogen helps the germination and growth process move faster. Loose dirt is better than compact.

Space

When selecting a space, start with containers. For more space options, grow plants in a raised garden bed or in the ground.

Plants

Choose the right plants. It's important to select plants that match your growing conditions. Pick a variety of what you eat.

Weather

Planting too early (or late) in the season can spell disaster for your garden. Research climate times for planting.

Mulch

Apply a layer of mulch that's 2 to 3 inches deep around each plant. This will help reduce weeds and reduce moisture loss.
